A Christmas Around the World theme makes for a fun and educational interdisciplinary teaching unit. Every December, teachers come to my site looking for ideas so I thought I’d compile a handy guide here for you.
When I taught first grade, the whole grade level participated in a Christmas Around the World unit. Each of us took a different country or celebration and prepared a lesson. The students then traveled “around the world” by visiting each of our classrooms for a lesson & activity. It was a great way to beat the after Thanksgiving blues! 😉
First, I want to share a handy printable resource I discovered. It is created by The Little Ladybug Shop. This resource has pages that can be copied front to back to for students to make informational brochures for 9 different celebrations around the world. Students research and fill in the brochures with what they’ve learned. You can find it here in my Downloads Shop: Christmas Around the World Research Brochures
This unit plan is from Mrs. Bainbridge’s Class. The unit outline and most of the printables are free including a Christmas Around the World scrapbook, passport and passport stickers, Christmas tree stationery and other printable activity pages. Mrs. Bainbridge’s unit can be found here: Christmas Around the World Unit
Next, let’s check out a fun craft. If your trip around the world includes countries of Scandinavia, these hearts would be a fun supplement activity for older students. Younger students might need some extra assistance.
Mrs. Nelson’s Holidays Around the World Unit provides an outline of activities for unit and includes links to free printables like passports, plane tickets and maps that you’ll need to get rolling!
This Christmas Around the World Unit Study from Confessions of a Homeschooler has some helpful research information and flag printables to help you round out the festivities! And it’s all free!
That’s all for now! I hope to add to this list.
