Highly Recommended Book -- Guided Reading: Making It Work
Teacher Tip
I just purchased this book, and it is an excellent resource for learning how to use guided reading in your classroom. It has everything you need to know, from what guided reading is to specific examples for lessons and assessment. It is teacher-friendly and easy to read. The other guided reading book, by Fountas and Pinnell, is very good, but seemed less teacher-friendly when I compared them side by side. I also preferred this book because it is much cheaper! If you have a hard time remembering what prompts to use as you guide children (Does that make sense? Does it look right?, etc.) there are pages that can be reproduced and used as easy-reference cards. The book was written by two Reading Recovery teachers, so if you have RR in your school, you'll know that the information will jive with what your students are learning in RR. Consistency is important! -- Guided Reading: Making It Work

Advice for Interviews
Teacher Tip
I got to participate in interviews last year (on the questioning end), so I will give as much advice as I can. I will list the questions we chose, but keep in mind, my fellow kindergarten teachers and I came up with these, and they could be completely different from questions you would get elsewhere! ...

Highly Recommended Book -- Primary Literacy Centers
Store Item
This is an excellent resource for K-3 teachers! Find out how to set up and manage literacy centers that support a balanced literacy framework for Reading, Word Work, Listening, Research, Literature Response, Writing, and Poetry. Teaching strategies, detailed reading and writing activities, plus reproducible center signs and student pages are included. The authors connect the IRA/NCTE standards to strategies and activities teachers can use in the classroom. If you need literacy centers for students to work in independently while you do small guided reading or writing groups, this book will be a great help. It has everything you need to know to get standards-based literacy centers in place!
