Materials: - Perfect Pancakes by William Wise
- 5 different colored markers
- Large blank chart paper
- How-To graphic organizer
- Notebook Paper
- Pencils
- Small snacks
Plan: - Read Perfect Pancakes.
- State prompt: The king is sick of eating pancakes. He wants something
else. Write a composition explaining how to make a bowl of cereal.
(for steps 3-6, kids get to eat a snack for their ideas) - Have the kids tell you the materials that are needed. Encourage them to be specific. Example: cereal>Honey Nut Cheerios.
- Next, have the kids tell how they would use each of the materials.
- Then do the introduction and the conclusion.
- Start writing the rough draft. Stress the importance of the writer to assume that the reader knows nothing. They must be very specific with their instructions. For instance, the kids would say,"Pour the milk." You can ask them how can someone pour the milk when you didn't tell the reader to open it first.
- Write the introduction, materials, steps, and conclusion in different colors.
- Edit rough draft in a different color.
